Our fabulous instructor will walk you through the process of sgraffito,where you carve through a layer of colored slip to reveal bright clay underneath. We'll start with sketching and planning, then trace out our patterns, and finally we'll learn carving techniques to decorate our plates.
In this workshop, you can choose between carving twomini dishes (approximately 3.25" in diameter each) or a dessert plate (approximately 6" in diameter). We'll be preparing these plates for you ahead of time so that when you arrive, they are formed, underglazed black, and ready for carving.
Come with your inspo or wait to be inspired here! We'll have some examples out for reference, and our studio is well-stocked with stencils, templates, cookie cutters, and more, so that everyone can make something they love, even if you don't consider yourself artistic.
After the workshop, we'll cover all pieces in a glossy clear coat and fire them in our kiln. Your fully finished piece will be ready to pick up approximately 4 weeks after the event.
No experience is necessary, both beginners and experts alike are welcome! All supplies needed for this experience will be provided by Meld, so all you need to bring is yourself and your creativity. We'll have an experienced ceramicist to lead you on your journey. Be sure to arrive on time to ensure you have ample time to create your piece.
